Dorothy Louise Poynor

April 15, 1936 — March 7, 2015

Dorothy Louise Poynor, formerly of Waldron, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, March 7, 2015 in Hot Springs, Arkansas surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born April 15, 1936 in St. Jo, Texas to Lois Wilburn Embry and Maggie Embry. She was 78 years, 10 months and 20 days old.

Dorothy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She retired after many years of serving as Executive Director of Scott County Public Housing. She took much joy in being able to help a lot of people throughout the years. Dorothy was kind-hearted and caring and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was skilled in crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles.

Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 60 years, Benton Poynor of Mt. Ida, Arkansas; one son, Rickey Poynor and wife JoEllen of Malvern, Arkansas; two daughters, Patricia Rodgers and husband Buck of Little Rock, Arkansas; Sharon Goodwin and husband Mike of Waldron, Arkansas. Granny will forever remain in the hearts of her grandchildren: Heather Chancellor and husband Lane; Holly Burroughs and husband Kliff; Brandon Goodwin; Jenna Urban and husband Patrick; great-grandchildren: Lanie Chancellor, Charly Chancellor, Henry Chancellor, Avery Burroughs, Ainsley Burroughs and Nate Urban. Dorothy also leaves behind many friends that she made in the past year at Montgomery County Assisted Living in Mt. Ida, Arkansas.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Lois Wilburn and Maggie Embry; siblings, Shirley Mayes and Billy Embry; and one great-granddaughter, Blair Burroughs.

Dorothy's graveside life celebration will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Pilot Prairie Cemetery in Waldron, Arkansas, with Rickey Poynor officiating. Interment will follow. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.
