Harvey Dale Bates of Waldron, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, June 2, 2016 embraced by the love of family and friends. Harvey was born December 21, 1939 in Waldron, Arkansas to Calvin Chevis Bates and Delma Vera (Harvey) Bates. Harvey was 76 years, 5 months and 12 days old. He was a member of Pleasant Grove #3 Church in Waldron, Arkansas.

As a young man Harvey married the love of his life, Lynda Sue Newberry. They committed to making a life together and they did just that. Harvey joined the United States Air Force where he served his country for 9 years. He then began a career with the Rail Road. After 30 plus years, he eventually retired where he and Lynda moved back home to Waldron, Arkansas to be near family. Harvey enjoyed pulling the camper out to the deer woods and sitting around the camp fire telling old stories with good friends or good stories with old friends. It has been told that Harvey had a bass boat that he occasionally put new tires on. He also enjoyed travelling. Harvey was an active member of multiple service organizations where he held various officer positions, such as Order of the Amaranth of Oklahoma, Order of the Amaranth of Arkansas, Eastern Star, Waldron Masonic Lodge #132 F&AM just to name a few. Harvey was a kind hearted and warm person. He would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved having a good time and being around loved ones. He especially looked forward to time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and those he considered his. Lots of fond memories and treasured times will never be forgotten.

Harvey leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Lynda of the home, two sons: Harvey Steven Bates of Ft. Worth, Texas and James Brian Bates of Alliance, Nebraska. Granddad will forever remain in the hearts of his three grandchildren: Brandi, Kolt and Savanah as well as four great grandchildren. Harvey is also survived by his sisters: Lottie Scott, Vera Hughes and Colette Piles. Harvey will be missed by all that knew him and the many whose lives he impacted including a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones very near and dear to him.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Delma Bates and one brother, Billy Barto Bates.

Harvey's life celebration will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron, Arkansas with Rev. Terry Benton officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove #3 Cemetery near Waldron, Arkansas. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.

Harvey's pallbearers will be Tina Brewer, Dana Anderson, Rick Scott, Melissa Callahan, Mackinzie Callahan and Vicky Laird.

Harvey's visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas where Harvey's family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
