Shirley Jo (Newberry ) Ammons passed from this life Monday, April 28, 2014 in Waldron, Arkansas surrounded by her family. Shirley was born May 14, 1936 to Harvey L. Newberry and Gertrude Armelia (Rhyne) Newberry in Waldron, Arkansas. She was 77 years, 11 months and 14 days old.
Shirley was a jack of all trades. She was a waitress at Trout Line Restaurant, a cook for a day care, and then she worked as a seamstress for Waldron Furniture Factory for many years. Shirley loved her family. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and making memories.
Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory, four children: Janice Watkins of Waldron, Arkansas, Denise McKaughan of Pottsville, Arkansas, Wanette Travis of Howe, Oklahoma and Bob Ammons of Waldron, Arkansas. Shirley will forever remain in the hearts of her seven grandchildren: Thurman Watkins, Michelle McCurrie, Bobby Ray Ammons, Skyla Sanders, Samantha Ashford, Dustin James Ammons and Anastasia Travis as well as twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Shirley will be missed by all that knew her and the many whose lives were impacted by her including six sisters, one brother, many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Jay Ammons, her parents, Harvey and Gertrude Newberry, two sisters and one grandson, Jason Owens.
Shirley's graveside life celebration will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Pleasant Grove #3 Cemetery with interment to follow. Bob Ammons, Gary Clepper and Jerry Isham will be officiating. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.
Shirley's pallbearers will be Thurman Watkins, Bobby Ray Ammons, Dustin James Ammons, Mark Ashford, Jason McCurrie, and Josh Owens.
Shirley's visitation will be Monday, April 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waldron Nursing Home or Arkansas Children's Hospital, c/o Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, P.O. Box 358, Waldron, Arkansas, 72958.
