James Elam

James P. (Pamplin) Elam, 86, passed from this life Thursday, November 11, 2010, at home in the Packsaddle Community. James was born on January 31, 1924, to the late Isaac and Dora Elam at Westover, Baylor County, TX, where he married Sammie Bell Boyd on October 29, 1944. He and his wife, Sammie, and two daughters moved to Scott County in 1949 when they purchased a farm in the Packsaddle Community. They lived here in Scott County the majority of their married life and raised their family here. James and Sammie raised chickens and cattle from 1960 until 1977. They continued to raise cattle even after they purchased a feed store 5 miles south of Waldron in 1983. They ran the Elam Feed Farm and Building Supply until they retired in 1995. He is survived by his two daughters, Philis Cook and husband, Daymon Cook, of the home and Sherian Dyson and husband, Glenn Dyson, of the Packsaddle Community. He is survived by five grandchildren, Rebecca Cope CDL driver, Kristy Blankenship of Heavener, OK, Terry Cook of Harrison, AR, Tonya Cook of Brownsville, TX, and Tammy Garcia of Austin, TX. He has nine great grandchildren, Ryan Doerr, Amanda Phillips, Kelly Woodrall, Taren Cook, Tylr McGehee, Emily, Christian, and Ethan Cook, and Isabel Garcia and five great great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his wife, Sammie, his brother, Clifford, and five sisters, Navada, Juanita, Pearl, Mildred, and Leola. James? funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Packsaddle Church with Rev. Grady Parker and Rev. Herman Woodard, officiating. Interment will follow at the Freedom Cemetery. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Ryan Doerr, James Cope, Alvin Carnahan, Gary Carnahan, Steve Hattabaugh, and Randy Carnahan. James? visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 9: 00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
