Michael Ray Hudson

Michael Ray Hudson Sr., age 69, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in Waldron, Arkansas, with the people he loved gathered close by his side. Michael was born June 10, 1957, in Macon, Georgia, to Billy Ray Hudson and Ruby Eujean (Staples) Hudson.

To his family, Michael was much more than a father and grandfather. He was Dad, Grandpa, and, to those especially blessed to call him by the name, "Papa Tater." He loved his family deeply and in his own unmistakable way. Michael could be stubborn-there was no denying that-but those who knew him best also knew the beautiful heart behind that stubborn streak. He was strong-willed, loyal, caring, and the kind of man who left an impression on the people around him.

Michael spent much of his younger years growing up in and around Palmetto, Florida. It was there that his country-boy roots took hold and his love for the outdoors became part of who he was. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and simply being outside. He never needed anything fancy to be content; the simple things, the outdoors, and time with the people he cared about meant the most to him.

Of all the things Michael enjoyed in life, nothing compared to his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He was proud of them, loved hearing about their lives, and treasured the moments they shared together. The name "Papa Tater" was one he wore with love, and the memories made with him will be carried forward by the generations who loved him.

And, of course, anyone who knew Michael knew where his football loyalty stood. His love for Alabama ran deep, and there was always room for one more enthusiastic "Roll Tide!"

Michael leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Michael Ray Hudson Jr. and wife Torill of Florida, Bobby Ray Hudson and wife Erica of Waldron, Arkansas, Kathaleen Rae Cockrum and husband Joe of Beebe, Arkansas, and Anthony Ray of Florida. He will also be missed by his first wife Susan Hudson, whom he always loved and remained close with to the end, to talk about life's issues and " the kids"

He will forever be remembered by his grandchildren, Oliva Tyson, Gavin Tyson, Makenzie Hudson, Asher Hudson, Nathan Hudson, Gabriella Hudson, Marius Brevik Staveli, and Jamie Johansen and spouse Kim. He also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, as well as his brother, Jody Jay Hudson and wife Maggie of Florida.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Ray and Ruby Hudson, and his daughter, Lisa Dawn Hudson.

Michael's life touched more people than he probably ever realized. His family will remember his stubborn streak, his big heart, his country ways, the stories and laughter, and the love that was always there beneath it all. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family, many friends, and the special friends he made at Dalton's Assisted Living in Waldron, Arkansas, who became an important part of his life.

Michael's family will host a private memorial service at a later date.

The days ahead will not be the same without Michael, but the stories, memories, laughter, and love he leaves behind will remain. His family will remember him every time a fishing line is cast, hunting season rolls around, or Alabama takes the field. Most of all, they will remember the man they loved as Dad, Grandpa, and Papa Tater-a stubborn country boy with a beautiful heart who loved his family fiercely.
